Bizarre Inventions That Somehow Got the Green Light

7. Lauren and Her Backwards Books

Lauren is obviously a somewhat visually centred person. To her, looks define a lot. Her approach is understandable to some degree for everyone. She might have gone one step too far, though, when she turned and stacked all of her books from the back to the front and so concealed all the titles. Although a neutral colour palette has great visual appeal, it begs issues concerning utility. Indeed, keeping the neutral colour palette looks great, but it also takes away the ability to really choose a book. Her bookcase becomes a visually appealing arrangement instead of a useful reading tool depending on this design choice. Surely by obscuring their titles and covers, it detracts from the attractiveness of every book? Every book tells a different story, hence Lauren runs the danger of losing the special character that every volume adds to her collection by hiding their identities. Perhaps covering them in paper would be a better concept; at least, write the name on the side for identification. This balance would guarantee that her love of design did not eclipse her passion of reading by allowing both visual appeal and accessibility.
